Erik Richter studied with Professor Susanne Müller-Hornbach at the Wuppertal site of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne, with Professor Ottó Kertész at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Budapest (State University) and with Professor Michael Flaksman at Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts. His training included numerous masterclasses as well as work with, for example, Heinrich Schiff, Siegfried Palm, Mstislav Rostropovich, Professor Gerhard Mantel, Professor György Déri, Professor Leslie Parnas, Professor Ulrich Leyendecker, András Schiff and Helmuth Rilling. Since his student days Erik Richter has been in demand as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral cellist in Germany and abroad, for example at the Stuttgart Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the International Beethoven Festival in Bonn and the Athens Music Festival. Until 2001 he was a member of the Norddeutsche Kammerphilharmonie, most recently as the solo cellist. While studying in Hungary he was a member of Budapest’s Dohnányi Symphony Orchestra.From 2003 to 2013 Erik Richter taught cello and chamber music at Kronberg Academy’s Emanuel Feuermann Conservatory and was also its deputy director. In 2013 he founded the Wuppertal Music Academy and is its artistic director and managing director. Since 2014 he has been teaching at the Wuppertal site of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne.Erik Richter is on the jury of various competitions (including Jugend Musiziert). He is also involved in iam (Internationaler Arbeitskreis für Musik) and the Remscheid Academy and gives masterclasses at, for example, Appassionato in Florence (Italy). His students have won several competition prizes (e.g. Jugend Musiziert, the Mendelssohn Competition), study at German universities of music and play in numerous orchestras, also as soloists.
